About this position

University of Edinburgh Business School is advertising a PhD with Integrated Study in Accounting for the 2027 entry cycle. This is a four-year, full-time doctoral programme with an additional write-up year, designed for students who want advanced research training in accounting, finance, and related areas of business and management.

The programme sits in the School’s Accounting and Finance group and is embedded in a research-intensive environment with seminars, workshops, research centres, and interdisciplinary links across the University of Edinburgh. Research themes include Interdisciplinary Accounting, Corporate Finance, Climate Change and Sustainability, Leadership, Organisations, and Society, and Management Science.

In year one, students complete 180 credits of taught courses covering theory, research methods, and research design before developing and executing an original doctoral project. The School strongly recommends contacting a potential supervisor before applying and submitting a draft research proposal and CV when making contact.

Eligibility highlights: applicants normally need a relevant master’s degree with strong academic performance, or in some cases a first-class undergraduate degree with a strong dissertation mark. Applicants must also meet English language requirements and provide transcripts, references, a personal statement, and a research proposal. Applications may be considered from current students, but any offer will be conditional on successful completion of the degree at the required standard.

Funding: this is not described as a fully funded studentship. Students typically combine funding sources such as scholarships, loans, savings, work income, or sponsorship. The University also notes a 10% graduate discount for eligible Edinburgh graduates. There is no application fee for this programme.

Deadline: 31 May 2027 for the 13 September 2027 start date.

How to apply: submit the application through the University of Edinburgh online portal/Euclid Applications Hub. Choose the programme, name your preferred supervisor(s), upload the required documents, and complete the application before the deadline.
