About this position
PhD opportunity in Colorectal Cancer Research at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. This doctoral position is focused on clinical and translational cancer research within the Colorectal Surgery research group led by Anna Martling and Caroline Nordenvall. The project aims to improve personalized treatment for colorectal cancer by studying the effect of low-dose acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) after surgery in patients with specific genetic alterations in the PI3K signaling pathway.
The work builds on the Nordic ALASCCA study and uses data from ALASCCA and the Swedish colorectal cancer quality registry database (CRCBaSe). The successful candidate will analyze large patient cohorts, perform epidemiological and clinical research, and carry out advanced statistical analyses to identify which patients may benefit most from aspirin treatment. The broader goal is to improve follow-up care, refine treatment strategies, and deepen understanding of aspirin’s mechanisms in cancer.
Research areas and keywords: colorectal cancer, clinical research, translational oncology, epidemiology, registry-based research, biostatistics, surgery, aspirin, personalized medicine.
Eligibility: applicants must meet KI doctoral eligibility requirements, including a master’s degree or equivalent and English proficiency equivalent to English B/English 6. Medical training is required. Strong analytical skills, an interest in cancer research, and familiarity with statistics, mathematics, data management, and large clinical databases are preferred.
