About this position
Nick Eaves, Associate Professor at the University of Windsor, is recruiting a PhD student for the NanoACE group beginning in May 2027.
The project focuses on computational modeling of the gas-phase synthesis of carbon quantum dots, fluorescent carbon nanoparticles used widely in sensing. The student will develop models tracing carbon from molecular precursors through the formation of the first nanoparticles. Research methods will include population balance methods, kinetic Monte Carlo, and molecular clustering models, with broader applications in chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, materials science, numerical simulation, and computational modeling.
Applicants should hold a thesis-based master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or a related field. Required preparation includes practical programming experience in C++ or Fortran, experience with numerical methods or stochastic simulation, and a published, submitted, or in-progress journal paper.
To apply, send a cover letter, CV, transcripts, and a link to code you have written to [email protected], using the subject line “NanoACE Modeling – PhD – Name.”
