Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig is advertising a PhD position in computational proteomics and metabolomics within the group “Standardisierung für Omics in biomolekularen Messungen” and in collaboration with the Braunschweig Integrated Centre of Systems Biology (BRICS) at Technische Universität Braunschweig.

The project sits at the intersection of bioinformatics, computational biology, mathematics, computer science, systems biology, statistics, and metrology. The successful candidate will develop, implement, and evaluate mathematical methods for measurement uncertainty quantification in high-dimensional mass-spectrometry-based omics data, especially proteomics data. The role also includes collaboration with experimental and clinical researchers, contribution to open-source software, and publication/presentation of results.

Eligibility highlights: a completed Master’s/Diplom degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, mathematics, informatics/computer science, or a related field; proven programming experience in R, Python, or similar languages; and strong communication and teamwork skills. Helpful experience includes Bioconductor, tidyverse, quarto, omics data analysis, statistical modeling, machine learning, reproducible science, open-source development, and FAIR data principles. German at B1 level and English at C1 level are expected, along with willingness to travel.

Funding and conditions: the position is a 3-year, fixed-term PhD appointment at 85% TVöD E13. PTB highlights excellent infrastructure, access to large datasets and high-performance computing, strong supervision and training, flexible working arrangements, and no teaching obligation.
