About this position
Doctoral student in energy and environmental systems analysis of hydrogen infrastructure at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.
This PhD project sits within the Maritime Environmental Sciences division at the Department of Environmental and Energy Sciences and is part of the broader TechForH2 competence centre and the HyLo hydrogen logistics collaboration. The research focuses on hydrogen technology, hydrogen storage and distribution, and the environmental and cost implications of hydrogen refueling infrastructure for sustainable transport and energy transitions.
Research methods include life cycle assessment, techno-economic assessment, and cost-minimizing energy systems models. The project will develop a model for hydrogen refueling stations to compare technology options under different scenarios, including costs, efficiency, materials, and potential leakages.
Applicants should have a relevant Master’s degree (or equivalent accepted qualification), with specialization in energy systems analysis, energy modelling, industrial ecology, energy technology, applied mathematics, or life cycle assessment. Strong data analysis and programming skills (GAMS, Matlab, Python, or R) and strong English communication skills are required. Knowledge of alternative transport fuels is a plus.
The position is fully funded from the start, with a fixed-term appointment of four years and the possibility to teach up to 20%, extending the position to five years. The starting salary is 35,725 SEK per month (from May 1, 2026). Doctoral studies require physical presence throughout the study period.
To apply, submit an English-language application via the online form and upload PDF files including a CV, personal letter, brief introduction, motivation, and bachelor’s and, if available, master’s thesis with transcripts. Applications sent by email or incomplete applications will not be considered. Deadline: 4 October 2026.
