About this position
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is advertising a PhD position in Environmental assessment, specialising in environmental chemistry, based in Uppsala, Sweden.
The doctoral project focuses on contaminants of emerging concern in soil matrices, with an emphasis on chemical screening, source-oriented approaches, occurrence, distribution, transformation, mobility, and links to terrestrial ecosystems and One Health. The work includes target, suspect, and non-target screening using LC-HRMS, sample preparation, extraction and clean-up, semi-quantitative analysis, spatial and temporal trend analysis, and interpretation of chemical patterns in relation to environmental sources and contaminant fate. Where available, environmental specimen bank samples may be used for retrospective screening and time-trend analysis.
You will join an international, interdisciplinary team and receive training in advanced instrumentation, HRMS-based chemical analysis, data processing, statistical evaluation, scientific communication, and collaborative research. The position is hosted by the Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment.
Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree or equivalent is required, along with specific knowledge in aquatic ecology, aquatic biogeochemistry, statistics, or ecotoxicology. An MSc in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemistry, environmental science, soil science, or geoscience is preferred. Experience with LC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS, suspect/non-target screening, complex environmental matrices, R/Python, and contaminant fate studies is considered a strong merit.

English language proficiency equivalent to Swedish upper-secondary Engelska B/6 is required.
