About this position
PhD opportunity in epidemiology of plant viruses at the University of Liège (Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech), Belgium.
The project focuses on viruses infecting Rubus species, including raspberry, fruit bramble, and wild bramble, in both crops and wild ecosystems on Belgian territory. The work is embedded in a dynamic international team with 6 nationalities and combines several research approaches: large-scale field sampling with producers and technical centres, molecular biology, high-throughput sequencing, bioinformatics, and greenhouse trials.
The research is carried out in close partnership with CRA-W Centre wallon de Recherches agronomiques and ILVO (Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek). The final objective is to identify which viruses are potentially at risk and to propose management methods for producers and authorities.
This is a doctoral thesis opening, supported by the Federal Public Service Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment. The post is clearly research-oriented and suitable for candidates with interests in plant virology, agricultural epidemiology, bioinformatics, and applied plant health.
Applications must be submitted by 31 July.
