About this position
Bond University's Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare and Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine are inviting expressions of interest for a PhD focused on evaluation and implementation science in cardiovascular prevention.
The project will evaluate a strategy to integrate influenza vaccination early into hospital-based care following acute myocardial infarction. Although early vaccination during the index admission can reduce all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, vaccination is commonly delivered in the community, where uptake may be suboptimal and delayed. The research will examine how an in-hospital vaccination program can improve clinical practice, patient experience and health outcomes.
Working with a national team of researchers and clinicians, the PhD candidate may evaluate the program and its feasibility, adoption and sustainability. The project will involve mixed-methods data collection, including quantitative and qualitative assessment of patient and clinician satisfaction and perspectives, as well as contributions to trial methodology and embedded implementation science frameworks.
The candidate will join a multidisciplinary research environment supported by Professor Julie Redfern and Dr Alexandra Davidson, with access to expertise in cardiovascular disease, clinical trials, implementation science and program evaluation. The work is expected to generate peer-reviewed publications and policy-relevant outputs that can inform national and global secondary cardiovascular prevention strategies and guidelines.
The opportunity also provides training in quantitative and qualitative research methods, implementation science and stakeholder engagement with clinicians, patients and policymakers.
