About this position

The CHOICE Institute at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy is now accepting applications for its PhD Program in Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) for the Fall 2026 cohort. This highly selective program prepares independent HEOR scientists and leaders, with a strong emphasis on the pharmaceutical sector. Students engage in advanced interdisciplinary training, taking courses in biostatistics, epidemiology, health economics, health services, decision sciences, machine learning, and health policy. The program is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the complex and interdisciplinary environment of outcomes research, with a focus on influencing health policy and advancing research excellence.

Located in Seattle's biotech hub, the CHOICE Institute offers unique opportunities for collaboration with leading organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and the Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation. Students benefit from access to world-class faculty, innovative research, and a vibrant academic community. The program accepts up to four new doctoral students each year, ensuring personalized mentorship and engagement.

Financial support includes guaranteed tuition funding for the first two years through fellowships, research, or teaching assistantships, as well as health insurance for students. Additional funding opportunities are available for the remainder of the program. Applicants must have a master's degree in a related field (epidemiology, economics, statistics, public health) or a professional degree in pharmacy, medicine, or a health-related field with strong quantitative skills. GRE scores are required, with emphasis on quantitative and analytical sections, and applicants must meet the University of Washington Graduate School requirements.

Graduates of the program are prepared for careers in academic research, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, health care organizations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations focused on global health and policy change. The application deadline is December 15, 2025. Prospective students should review the program website, prepare required documents, and submit their application online.
