About this position

The University of Arizona's College of Information Science is now accepting applications for its PhD in Information program for Fall 2026 admission. This interdisciplinary doctoral program is designed for students interested in advancing research in information science, with a focus on areas such as machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), artificial intelligence (AI) for science and cybersecurity, human–computer interaction (HCI), digital curation, immersive technologies, game development, and related fields.

As Arizona’s only iSchool and a member of the global iSchools consortium, the College of Information Science offers a collaborative environment with access to leading faculty and research centers, including the Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Computational Language Understanding Laboratory, and Extended Reality and Games Lab. The PhD program requires 54–63 academic units, including major and minor coursework, dissertation credits, and research seminars. The curriculum is designed to foster interdisciplinary understanding and prepare graduates for careers in academia, industry, government, and nonprofit sectors. The college values diversity and seeks applicants with a wide range of research interests and backgrounds.

All admitted PhD students receive full funding, which includes tuition coverage and a stipend for living expenses for at least four years. Additional support for travel and research is available. The next application deadline is December 5, 2025, for Fall 2026 entry. Prospective students should have a strong academic background in information science, computer science, or related fields, and demonstrate interest or experience in the program’s research areas.
