About this position

PhD opportunity at Aalborg University in precision medicine in psychiatry, focused on using large-scale data to improve disease subtyping and risk prediction.

The project is based at the Department of Health Science and Technology, Aalborg University, with affiliation to the National Centre for Register-based Research at Aarhus University. The research will use genetic, imaging, and epidemiological data from Denmark and other countries to study the heterogeneity of psychiatric disorders, especially ADHD.

You will work in the Genomic Medicine Group and apply machine learning, deep learning, statistical genetics, and advanced analytical methods to develop novel approaches for psychiatric research. The post is especially relevant for candidates interested in medical science, psychology/psychiatry, statistics, computer science, biology, and neuroscience.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in statistics, biomedical engineering, computer science, medicine, or a related field; strong Python and/or R skills; experience with data curation, large datasets, genetic methods, and machine learning is an advantage. The successful candidate must enroll in the PhD programme in Biostatistics and Epidemiology and complete the usual PhD training requirements, including courses, teaching/dissemination, and an external research stay.

Funding: one PhD stipend for a 3-year full-time appointment starting 15 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary and terms follow Danish university regulations and the collective agreement.
