About this position
Bond University is inviting expressions of interest for a Doctor of Philosophy project on the lifecycle value and pricing of medicines on the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
The research forms part of a broader Centre of Research Excellence collaborative program and will develop and evaluate an evidence-informed framework for reassessing medicine value and pricing across the medicine lifecycle in Australia. It responds to the direction of Australia's health technology assessment policy review toward greater use of post-HTA evidence, pricing analysis and reassessment after medicines are listed.
The PhD candidate will join a national team of researchers and health economists under the supervision of Associate Professor Hansoo Kim. The project offers interdisciplinary research spanning health economics, health technology assessment, medicines policy, economic modelling, real-world data analysis, stakeholder engagement and mixed-methods research.
- Review value-based pricing and post-listing medicine reassessment approaches in Australia and internationally.
- Analyse longitudinal PBS pricing, utilisation and reimbursement data to examine changes in medicine prices and value.
- Conduct stakeholder surveys to establish expert consensus on when and how medicine prices should be reassessed.
- Develop and apply health economic models to compare lifecycle pricing approaches and their implications for cost-effectiveness, health-system value and medicine expenditure.
The project is expected to produce peer-reviewed publications and policy-relevant outputs with potential to inform national policy, improve health-system value and support sustainable access to effective medicines.
