About this position

Call for PhD students at the QUT Centre for Robotics (Queensland University of Technology), with projects spanning robot positioning, localisation, mapping, SLAM, visual place recognition, neuromorphic and brain-inspired computing, underwater perception, reef monitoring and restoration, and new software tools for computer vision and robotics.

The post is shared by Tobias Fischer, Senior Lecturer at QUT, who is looking for PhD applicants to join his research area and the wider robotics centre. The centre has around 60 PhD students across about 15 Chief Investigators, offering a broad robotics environment with expertise in autonomous systems, robotic vision, SLAM, underwater robotics, aerial robotics, human-robot interaction, agricultural robotics, and more.

Research interests highlighted: intelligent robotic systems, robotic vision, autonomous vehicles, SLAM, localisation, navigation, mapping, bio-inspired/neuromorphic computing, underwater perception, marine robotics, and computer vision software.

Eligibility/preferences: applicants should have a strong interest in robotics, computer vision, autonomy, or related computational fields. The post especially encourages students from underrepresented groups, including women in STEM, Indigenous peoples, people with disability, people of colour, and students from non-academic backgrounds.

How to apply: email Tobias Fischer at [email protected] with the subject line "QUT Annual PhD Round 2026" and attach your CV and transcripts. Example projects and other QUT robotics investigators are linked in the post for further exploration.

Funding: no explicit funding, stipend, or tuition details are stated in the post.
