About this position

PhD opportunity at Aalborg University, Denmark, in Safe Multi-Robot Planning and Control under Connectivity Constraints. The position is hosted by the Department of Electronic Systems and the Automation and Control Section, within the broader area of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The project is part of the ROX6G EU Horizon initiative, focused on autonomous robotic systems for hazardous underground mines. The research combines robotics, multi-robot systems, planning, control, connectivity preservation, learning-based coordination, and digital twins. The PhD candidate will develop theoretical and algorithmic methods for safe, resilient, real-time autonomy in uncertain and partially known environments, and will validate them through simulation, laboratory experiments, and physical robot platforms.

Expected work includes designing and implementing algorithms, robotic software, simulation environments, and digital-twin tools; integrating sensor data; and contributing to project-level system integration and validation. The role is research-intensive but also strongly hands-on, with emphasis on practical robotic experimentation.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++, familiarity with ROS/ROS 2, and experience with robotic systems integration are desirable. Helpful background includes multi-robot coordination, safety-critical or optimisation-based control, autonomous navigation, localisation, SLAM, sensor fusion, simulation tools such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or Webots, and research publications. Strong English communication and the ability to work independently and in international teams are important.

This is a full-time PhD stipend for 3 years. Salary and employment terms follow the Danish AC collective agreement. The application deadline is 2026-11-29.

How to apply: submit an application, CV, diplomas, thesis/publications, and any recommendation letters through Aalborg University’s recruitment system. For questions, contact the listed department representative.
