About this position
INRAE is offering a three-year PhD thesis in spatio-temporal modeling and extrapolation of ecological networks at the BioSP (Biostatistics and Spatial Processes) unit in Avignon, France.
The project aims to improve understanding and prediction of the natural regulation of crop pests, supporting reduced pesticide use and sustainable agroecology. The research will develop statistical and artificial intelligence methods to extrapolate ecological networks linking plants, pests, and natural enemies from localized observations and environmental data.
Research topics include complex ecological network representation, integration of spatial and temporal data on landscapes, climate, and agricultural practices, and stochastic modeling of network dynamics. Supervision is provided by Samuel Soubeyrand, Julien Papaïx, and Edith Gabriel.
Applicants should have a Master 2/Bac+5 or engineering degree in statistics, applied mathematics, data science, or a related field, together with an interest in ecological and agroecological applications. The thesis contract lasts three years, starts on 1 April 2026, and lists a salary of 2300. Applications are due by 29 November 2026 and should include a CV and cover letter sent to Samuel Soubeyrand.
