PhD in Statistical Aspects of Privacy for Spatial Health Data Aalborg University in Denmark

PhD position in Statistical Aspects of Privacy for Spatial Health Data at Aalborg University, hosted by the Center for Clinical Data Science (CLINDA) in collaboration with the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

This project sits at the intersection of mathematics, statistics, public health, and privacy-preserving data science. The research uses rich Danish health registry data to develop methods for analyzing sensitive spatial health data such as disease maps and medical imaging while protecting individual privacy. Topics include differential privacy, synthetic data, spatial statistics, and privacy metrics for health data.

The position is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Data Science Collaborative Programme Synthetic health data: ethical development and deployment via deep learning approaches (SE3D), with collaboration across Aalborg University, the University of Copenhagen, and legal expertise for GDPR compliance. The PhD student will join CLINDA’s Data Science Methods group and interact with broader Danish data science infrastructure networks.

Funding: fully funded 3-year PhD stipend. Start date: September 1, 2026 or soon thereafter. Deadline: 31 May 2026.

Eligibility highlights: MSc in mathematical statistics, mathematically founded data science, mathematical economics, or similar; strong mathematics/statistics background; excellent English; spatial statistics experience is an advantage. The PhD includes coursework, teaching/dissemination experience, and an external research stay.
