This fully funded four-year PhD opportunity at Erasmus University Rotterdam focuses on identifying and addressing sustainability transition conflicts through the study of citizen collectives (CCs) in the Netherlands. The position is based at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) and is part of the ECCO consortium, which brings together 11 PhD researchers across Dutch universities. The research aims to understand how CCs act as early detectors and mediators of societal tensions, such as polarization and inequality, that arise from sustainability policies and practices.

The successful candidate will design and conduct independent, transdisciplinary research using qualitative methods like ethnography and participatory action research. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing longitudinal data from multiple CCs, co-developing interventions and the 'Pluralizer Tool,' and collaborating with academic teams and communities. The project emphasizes societal impact, knowledge exchange, and the development of practical tools for navigating complex societal challenges.
