About this position
PhD opening at Aalborg University, Denmark, in wireless-native Physical AI systems within the general study programme Wireless Communications.
The project is hosted by the Department of Electronic Systems in the Connectivity Section. Research will focus on the integration of artificial intelligence with wireless sensing and communication, including how radio signals and multimodal sensor observations can be jointly exploited by intelligent physical systems such as robots, vehicles, and distributed autonomous agents.
The PhD student will work on models and algorithms for the joint design of sensing, communication, inference, and action, with attention to latency, interference, reliability, incomplete observations, and limited wireless resources. The project includes AI-driven inference and robotic experimentation, and aims to validate methods on a real robotic platform with multimodal sensors, wireless connectivity, edge intelligence, and robotic actuation.
Eligible applicants should hold a Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, data science, mathematical engineering, robotics, or a closely related field. Strong mathematical and analytical skills are expected, and experience with machine learning, wireless communications, signal processing, multimodal sensing, robotic perception, optimization, or control is an advantage. Scientific programming skills in Python and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow are desirable.
This is a PhD stipend position, normally for 3 years, with salary and terms according to Danish university regulations and the AC collective agreement. The application must include a motivation letter, CV, diplomas with grades, a two-page research vision, and other relevant documents. Applications are submitted through Aalborg University’s recruitment system.
