The PhD project aims to produce research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, which will form the basis of a thesis leading to a PhD degree at Ghent University. The candidate may also undertake limited teaching duties for undergraduate and graduate courses, tailored to their skills and interests.
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Computational Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent field. Essential qualifications include a solid background in numerical methods for partial differential equations and numerical analysis, basic knowledge or interest in fluid dynamics and free-surface flows, experience with scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, C++), and strong communication and writing skills in English. Experience in international collaboration is considered an asset.
The fellowship is offered for an initial period of 12 months, extendable up to a maximum of 48 months after a positive evaluation. The salary is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member, determined by family status and seniority, and is tax-free. The intended starting date is flexible but must be no later than October 2026.
