About this position
A fully funded PhD position is available in the Cell Signaling and Cell Cycle group at the Danish Cancer Institute, under the leadership of Professor Jakob Nilsson. The research focuses on developing novel CRISPR-based technologies for drug target discovery in cancer, with a particular emphasis on signaling pathways, kinases, phosphatases, and base editor screening. The Danish Cancer Society's research institute hosts 23 research groups and several core facilities, providing a dynamic and international environment for approximately 300 researchers.
The successful candidate will establish and utilize a novel cell-based screening approach using CRISPR base editor technology to uncover drug targets for specific cancer types. Responsibilities include conducting large-scale CRISPR screens, computational analysis, validation, and mechanistic studies in cancer cells.
The PhD student will work closely with Postdoc Filip Mihalič for daily guidance. Applicants should have a master's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or a related field, with hands-on experience in laboratory methods, signaling pathways, tissue culture, CRISPR, and lentiviruses.
Strong English communication skills, motivation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are required. The position offers a fully funded 3-year contract, salary according to Danish Cancer Society agreements, and access to state-of-the-art facilities including bioimaging, flow cytometry, gene editing, and more.
Additional benefits include a health-conscious canteen, free fruit, sports and art association, and a smoke-free environment. The working language is English, and the PhD student will be enrolled at the University of Copenhagen. The application deadline is December 1, 2025, with interviews in December and a start date in early 2026.
Applications should be submitted electronically and include a motivation letter, CV, MSc diploma, and a reference letter. For further information, contact Professor Jakob Nilsson or Postdoc Filip Mihalič.
