About this position
The IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for a three-year PhD project on Constructive Alignment for Software Engineering Education and AI. The project is part of PREPARE – Pedagogical Alignment for Responsible AI in Software Engineering Education, a joint ITU–University of Southern Denmark initiative funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
Based at ITU’s Center for Computing Education Research (CCER), the PhD project examines how university Software Development and Software Engineering courses can be designed for responsible use of generative AI. Its central focus is AI Pedagogical Alignment: maintaining consistency between Intended Learning Outcomes, Teaching/Learning Activities, and Assessment Tasks when students use AI-supported tools.
The researcher will analyze and redesign selected BSc and MSc courses, develop teaching and learning materials, create educational activities and assessment approaches, and implement interventions with course instructors at ITU and/or SDU. The project will use a design-based, mixed-methods approach involving iterative pilot studies, surveys, qualitative and quantitative evaluation, and analysis of student performance, practices, and learning outcomes.
The PhD student will work closely with Professor Claus Brabrand, CCER researchers, instructors, and disciplinary experts across the ITU–SDU PREPARE collaboration. The parallel SDU stream investigates Agency-First practices for responsible student use of AI, providing complementary insights for the pedagogical designs developed in the ITU stream.
ITU offers an interdisciplinary research environment spanning computer science, information and media sciences, humanities, social sciences, and business impact. The successful researcher will contribute to international publications and presentations while helping develop scalable, evidence-based approaches to responsible AI integration in computing education.
