About this position
Karolinska Institutet in Huddinge, Sweden, is offering a full-time PhD position in digital lifestyles and mental wellbeing in adolescents, using mHealth and EEG methodologies. The doctoral student will join the IMPACT research group, led by Professor Marie Löf, and work within the research team of Researcher Ioannis Ioakeimidis.
The project investigates how objectively measured digital lifestyle parameters relate to lifestyle behaviours, mental wellbeing and neurophysiological responses among children and adolescents. Research areas include social media, short-form video, messaging applications, digital games, dietary habits, sleep, physical activity, sedentary time and daily routines. EEG studies will examine attention, inhibitory control and emotional processing in response to digital content. The work combines technology-assisted behavioural research, real-world data collection, EEG-based studies and longitudinal analysis, with possible qualitative or co-creation activities involving young people, families and schools.
Applicants should have a master's-level background in nutrition or a related scientific field involving quantitative analysis of lifestyle behaviours and behavioural change. Required experience includes quantitative and qualitative data collection, participant-data management and analysis using systems such as REDCap, survey-data analysis, and excellent written and spoken English. Experience with children or school-based research, real-world studies, eHealth platforms, image-content analysis, Swedish at B1 level, interdisciplinary projects, Horizon Europe procedures or proposal writing is advantageous.
Applicants must satisfy Swedish doctoral-education eligibility requirements, including a second-cycle qualification or equivalent academic credits and English proficiency equivalent to Swedish English B/English 6. The doctoral student will be employed for up to four years full time and receive a contractual salary under KI's doctoral salary scale. Applications must include a personal letter, CV, degree projects or publications where available, evidence of relevant skills, and eligibility documentation. The deadline is 16 November 2026.
