About this position
Karolinska Institutet is advertising a doctoral (PhD) student position in epigenetics, bioinformatics, and neuroimmunology within the Department of Clinical Neuroscience in Stockholm, Sweden.
The project is led by Professor Maja Jagodic and is embedded in the Karolinska Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (KNIMS) network. The research focuses on using cell-free DNA (cfDNA) to study molecular processes associated with neurological conditions, combining access to unique clinical cohorts with state-of-the-art molecular and computational approaches. The work aims to improve understanding of disease mechanisms and support novel biomarker strategies in precision medicine.
The supervisory team includes Dr. Maria Needhamsen (main supervisor), Dr. Narsis Kiani, Prof. Fang Fang, and Prof. Maja Jagodic, bringing expertise in bioinformatics, computational biology, epigenetics, neuroimmunology, and epidemiology.
The PhD student will contribute to experimental and computational work, including generation of high-throughput sequencing data, development and implementation of computational/statistical analyses, scientific writing, presentations, and dissemination. The position also includes postgraduate courses and participation in graduate-school activities.
Eligibility requires a master’s degree or equivalent for doctoral education and English proficiency equivalent to English B/English 6. Preferred backgrounds include bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, biomedicine, or related fields. Strong R/Python programming, Linux, HPC, and experience with DNA methylation or single-cell RNA-seq analysis are advantageous.
This is a paid doctoral studentship for up to 4 years full-time, with a contractual monthly salary. Applications must be submitted via the Varbi recruitment system by 2026-10-15.
