About this position

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is advertising a PhD position in molecular modeling of nanoporous materials and confined fluids within the Laboratory for Materials Interfaces in the Otto H. York Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering.

The position is supervised by Prof. Gennady Gor and focuses on computational and theoretical research in areas such as gas adsorption by smart materials, electrosorption (supercapacitors), electrochemical carbon capture, ion separations by polymer membranes, and liquid metals for flexible electronics. The research uses methods including Monte Carlo simulations, molecular dynamics, and density functional theory.

This is a fully funded PhD opportunity. The student will receive a stipend and tuition coverage.

Eligibility highlights include a strong motivation for interdisciplinary theoretical/computational research, an M.S. degree in chemical engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a closely related field, although exceptional B.S. candidates may also be considered. Applicants should have a strong math background and programming experience.

The start date is September 2026 or January 2027. Applications should be submitted by email as a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, three references, unofficial transcripts, and publications if available. The subject line should be PhD application. The post also notes that invited candidates will later complete the formal NJIT admissions application.

For more information, the post links to the NJIT PhD admissions page and the PI’s research website.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
