Leibniz University Hannover / L3S Research Center is advertising a PhD position in Neurosymbolic AI for Scientific Workflows. The project focuses on developing data-driven, adaptive, human-in-the-loop, and semi-autonomous pipelines that make research processes more efficient, transparent, and reproducible.

The successful candidate will work on the design, development, and implementation of neurosymbolic AI and integrated LLM architectures, including the integration of large language models and agentic systems into scientific workflows. Additional tasks include designing and evaluating multi-agent architectures, analyzing heterogeneous data sources for decision support, running experiments, and publishing results in international journals and top-tier conferences.

This opportunity is based in Hannover, Germany, at an internationally renowned interdisciplinary research center active in AI, machine learning, web science, data science, and digital libraries. The position is a 36-month doctoral research assistant role at salary scale 13 TV-L, 75%.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or a related field. Strong knowledge of machine learning/deep learning, solid Python programming skills, and very good English are expected. Experience with LLMs or agentic systems is a major advantage.

Application deadline: 31 May 2026. Applicants should send their materials as a single PDF to [email protected]. For more information, contact Dr. Gollam Rabby.
