About this position

PhD position at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) in Bellaterra (Barcelona), Spain on quantum transport in van der Waals heterostructures.

The project is hosted by the Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices Research Group, led by ICREA Prof. Sergio O. Valenzuela, with supervision also by Dr. Juan F. Sierra. The research focuses on two-dimensional materials, graphene, spintronics, magnetotransport, spin-charge interconversion, spin torques, and the interplay between spin, magnetism, superconductivity, and topology in quantum materials.

The successful candidate will work on device design and fabrication, deterministic assembly of 2D materials, electron-beam lithography and cleanroom nanofabrication, cryogenic electrical and quantum-transport measurements, high magnetic-field experiments, spin-resolved transport, advanced spectroscopy, and data analysis.

Eligibility highlights: a Master's degree in Physics, Materials Science, Nanoscience, or a closely related field; strong background in solid-state physics; good English; and prior experience in 2D materials, nanofabrication, transport measurements, cryogenics, spintronics, Raman spectroscopy, or scientific programming is valued.

Funding: the position is funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) / National Plan grant PID2025-173015OB-I00. It is a full-time 4-year temporary contract, with salary depending on qualifications and experience, plus relocation support and life insurance.

How to apply: submit the application through the ICN2 website with a motivation letter, CV, referee contacts or letters, and Bachelor's/Master's transcripts. Applications are reviewed continuously, so candidates should apply as soon as possible.
