About this position

ETH Zurich and the Paul Scherrer Institute are offering a funded PhD position in radiopharmaceutical sciences within the Center for Radiopharmaceutical Sciences (CRS), a joint research center internationally recognized for pioneering work in radiopharmaceutical chemistry and targeted radionuclide therapy.

The project is hosted by the Schibli Group, led by Prof. Roger Schibli, in close collaboration with the laboratory of Prof. Kaspar Locher in the Department of Biology at ETH Zurich. The research focuses on glycoengineered peptides and nanobodies for imaging and therapy, with an emphasis on understanding how defined N-glycosylation can improve pharmacokinetic and pharmacological behavior. This is a translational project connecting glycobiology, molecular imaging, radiochemistry, and preclinical evaluation.

As a PhD student, you will develop and optimize radiolabeling strategies for glycosylated peptides and nanobodies, perform quality control and analytical characterization, conduct cell-based binding and uptake studies, and plan and analyze biodistribution, PET, and SPECT imaging in mouse models. You will also investigate pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of novel radiolabeled compounds and collaborate closely with a PhD student in the Locher laboratory to optimize glycosylated constructs.

The position is well suited to candidates with a strong background in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology, or biotechnology, and with interest or experience in radiopharmaceutical sciences, radiochemistry, bioconjugation, protein engineering, cell biology, or preclinical imaging. Experience with PET/SPECT imaging, radiopharmacy, or animal studies is welcome but not required. Strong English communication skills, independence, and teamwork in an interdisciplinary and international environment are important.
