About this position
The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and the ETH Domain, is offering a PhD position in the Alpine Remote Sensing group at the CERC research centre in Davos, Switzerland, starting in January 2027.
The doctoral researcher will develop, test, and implement new methods for investigating large deep-seated landslides in the Southern Swiss Alps. The project combines fieldwork, monitoring, remote sensing, and numerical modelling to analyse the spatial and temporal evolution of two landslide areas. The results will contribute to hazard scenarios and help authorities in Ticino define protection measures for infrastructure and communities.
The main workplace is SLF in Davos, with several research stays at the SUPSI campus in Mendrisio and fieldwork in the Canton of Ticino. The dissertation will be supervised by PD Dr. Andrea Manconi of ETH Zurich.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in engineering or natural sciences and have strong expertise in mass-movement investigation, remote sensing, fieldwork, and large datasets. Experience with satellite radar interferometry (InSAR) and programming is desirable. Very good English is required; Italian is an advantage.
Applications must be submitted through the online portal. Email and postal applications are not accepted.
