About this position

The Turfgrass Genomics Lab at Oklahoma State University, led by Dr. Shuhao Yu, is seeking a motivated PhD student to join the program in Summer 2026. The research focuses on uncovering the genetic basis of winter hardiness in bermudagrass and developing marker-based selection methods for turfgrass improvement. Key research areas include QTL and GWAS mapping, high-throughput phenotyping, transcriptomics, metabolomics, KASP marker development, and genomic selection. The successful candidate will conduct research in plant genetics and genomics, develop scholarly manuscripts and presentations, and manage field and lab research while mentoring undergraduate students.

Applicants should have an M.S. degree in plant breeding, genetics, genomics, horticulture, agronomy, or a related field. Preferred qualifications include experience in molecular genetics, quantitative genetics, applied breeding, field research, data analysis, and molecular lab techniques such as tissue culture and gene editing. Familiarity with R, Python, or other programming languages for genomics and statistical analysis is advantageous. Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to publish research findings are required. Valid TOEFL and GRE records are mandatory for application.

This position is funded by USDA-NIFA and is offered as a Graduate Research Assistantship, which typically includes a stipend and tuition coverage. The application process involves submitting a statement of interest and career goals, CV, unofficial transcripts, and contact information for three references to Dr. Shuhao Yu via email.
