About this position

Tu Delft is offering a fully funded PhD position in Wireless Communications and Non-Terrestrial Networks within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS). The project sits at the frontier of 6G wireless communications, satellite communications, wireless sensing, and non-terrestrial networks (NTN), with a focus on reliable, resilient, and sustainable connectivity for future global communication infrastructures.

As a PhD candidate, you will join the Embedded Systems group and contribute to research across several European projects. Depending on the project, your work may involve terrestrial and non-terrestrial networking, communication theory, signal processing, embedded systems, RF systems, and satellite technologies. The position offers access to SDR platforms, RF measurement equipment, satellite communication testbeds, and wireless experimentation facilities. You may also collaborate with universities, research institutes, satellite technology providers, and industrial partners across Europe.

This PhD is ideal for candidates interested in the intersection of wireless communications, networking, and space/satellite systems. TU Delft welcomes applicants from Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Computer Engineering, and related disciplines. Prior experience with software-defined radio, communication simulation, or wireless experimentation is welcome but not mandatory. A strong technical foundation, curiosity, and motivation to work across disciplines are emphasized.

The appointment is for 4 years in two employment contracts, with an initial 1.5-year contract and a go/no-go assessment, followed by a 2.5-year contract if progress and performance are satisfactory. The salary increases from €3059 to €3881 gross per month over the four years, plus 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The post is EU-funded under the Horizon Europe Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) programme, named IoT-Zero.

Applicants should hold an MSc degree in a closely related field and have excellent English proficiency for doctoral study, publication writing, and participation in the TU Delft Graduate School.
