About this position
PhD openings are being shared for Next-Generation Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) at Johns Hopkins University, with research spanning satellite communications, 5G NR-NTN, AI-native NTN, and O-RAN.
There are two possible research tracks:
1) AI-Native NTN Systems & O-RAN
Build 5G NR-NTN architectures, protocols, and software stacks for satellite networks. Topics include propagation delay, Doppler, timing synchronization, satellite mobility, dynamic topology, beam/cell handovers, AI-native RAN optimization, and NTN-aware O-RAN RIC applications (xApps and rApps).
2) NTN Radio Units & Wireless Hardware
Design and prototype NTN radio units and RF front ends for satellite links, including beamforming, MIMO, and PHY-layer signal processing, with validation on FPGA and SDR platforms.
Preferred backgrounds include C/C++/Python, wireless protocol stacks, 3GPP NR-NTN, O-RAN, AI/ML, RF design, wireless communications, signal processing, and FPGA/SDR development.
This is a PhD recruitment post. No deadline or funding details are stated in the post. Interested candidates should email [email protected] and indicate which track matches their experience.
