Duke University’s FuNCtions Lab, led by Tingjun Chen (Nortel Networks Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering), has immediately open postdoc and research engineer positions in next-generation wireless, mobile, and optical networked systems.

The lab works at the intersection of communications, sensing, and computing, with a strong emphasis on both theory and real-world experimental systems. Research themes include NextG wireless networks, AI/ML-enabled wireless and optical networking, scalable wireless digital twins, embedded and edge AI, prototyping and testbeds, hardware-software co-design, quantum networking and sensing, and spectrum monitoring and coexistence.

Particularly relevant experience includes SDRs, RFSoC/FPGA platforms, full-stack RAN systems such as srsRAN and OAI, embedded/edge AI for real-time communication and sensing, wireless and autonomy testbeds, multi-modal digital twins, large-scale experimental evaluation, and AI-driven hardware/system design, optimization, and deployment.
