About this position
The University of Bergen (UiB) is recruiting a PhD Research Fellow at the Department of Psychosocial Science in Bergen, Norway. The project is part of infoSHIELD (Technology-Enhanced Cognitive Resilience Toolkit for Disinformation Detection, Vulnerability Profiling, and Digital User Empowerment), a five-year research project funded by the Research Council of Norway.
This PhD focuses on cognitive psychology, psychophysiology, and human-computer interaction, with a strong emphasis on human-AI interaction, misinformation/disinformation, and the cognitive and affective processes involved in evaluating misleading information. The successful candidate will design and run experimental studies using behavioral and psychophysiological methods, potentially including EEG and skin conductance, and will contribute to participant recruitment, data collection, preprocessing, statistical analysis, interpretation, publications, and the doctoral thesis.
The position is fixed-term for 3 years, with a possible 4th year that includes 25% career-promoting work such as teaching. The role is planned to start in January/February 2027. The workplace is Bergen, Norway, and regular on-site presence is required for laboratory work and collaboration.
Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree or equivalent in psychology, HCI, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, or another relevant field; normally a B or better on the master’s thesis; admission eligibility for the PhD programme at UiB; quantitative research and statistical analysis experience; excellent English; and good Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. Experience with experimental design, psychophysiological data, R/Python/MATLAB, PsychoPy/Psychtoolbox/PsyToolkit, open science, and interdisciplinary research is advantageous.
Funding: financed by UiB and linked to a project funded by the Research Council of Norway. Salary is NOK 593,700 before taxes per year, with possible higher salary for specialist education.
How to apply: Submit a motivation statement, a one-page career development plan, CV, transcripts/diplomas, certified translations if needed, HK-dir recognition documents for foreign education, reference contacts, certificates, and publication list. Apply through Jobbnorge before the deadline.
