The project aims to develop a new gene-delivery strategy targeting retinal bipolar cells, including cloning and validation of DNA constructs, testing selectivity, and producing genetically engineered viral vectors for vision restoration studies.

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary translational eye-research environment connected to imaging, biochemical techniques, and innovative tools for safer and more effective interventions for blinding diseases. Key tasks include DNA construct design and cloning, PCR/sequencing/expression validation, in vitro testing, viral particle production and characterization, workflow optimization, and preparation of publications and conference presentations.

Eligibility highlights: MSc degree or equivalent in molecular biology, biotechnology, genetic engineering, or a related field; practical experience in molecular cloning and DNA construct preparation; cell culture and standard molecular biology skills; English proficiency; PhD student status or commitment to external PhD studies. Experience with viral vectors or recombinant protein expression is an advantage. Documented eye-research experience, scientific achievements, and awards are considered in selection.

Funding: part-time employment contract (0.5 FTE) with a salary of 3850 gross/month, proportionally adjusted if the FTE is lower. The position starts on 1 September 2026 and is temporary.
