About this position
PhD student position in Group 4: Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence at the MAB QLAB Centre, University of Warsaw, Poland.
The position sits within the Centre for Hybrid Quantum-Classical Information Technologies (QLAB), a joint initiative of the University of Warsaw and Sorbonne Université. QLAB develops scalable hybrid quantum-classical technologies across quantum-secure communication, quantum infrastructure and photonic information processing, quantum imaging and metrology, and quantum computing and artificial intelligence.
Research focus: The selected PhD student will work in Group 4 on hybrid quantum-classical algorithms and learning architectures, including quantum simulation, quantum reservoir computing, autonomous quantum agents for adaptive control and optimization, quantum neural networks, physics-informed machine learning, and open quantum systems. The project investigates how quantum correlations and memory influence learning and computational performance, with attention to trainability, generalization, noise robustness, and computational resource scaling.
Employment and funding: This is a full-time, temporary employment contract at the University of Warsaw for a technical position outside the academic-teacher group, with a possible change to a research position after one year. The post is funded through International Research Agendas (MAB), Measure 2.1 of the European Funds for a Modern Economy 2021-2027 Programme (FENG), project FENG.02.01-IP.05-B013/25, financed by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP). Monthly gross salary is PLN 9,500 when the doctoral-school statutory scholarship is awarded; if admitted via the beyond-the-limit route without scholarship, the remuneration is PLN 9,700 gross. A start-up package is available for travel, conferences, and computational resources, and mobility with QLAB partners is encouraged.
Eligibility highlights: Applicants should have an MSc degree or equivalent in physics, computer science, applied mathematics, optics, quantum technology, or a related field. A background in quantum information, statistical physics, quantum computing, machine learning, or numerical physics is expected. Experience with scientific programming and familiarity with QNNs, many-body systems, reinforcement learning, or numerical simulation will strengthen the application. Good English (B2 or higher) is required.
Important recruitment condition: This is a two-track recruitment. The candidate must also be admitted to the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences at the University of Warsaw. QLAB-selected candidates must apply in parallel to that Doctoral School; if selected by QLAB but not admitted in the standard intake, the university may process the case via the beyond-the-limit recruitment procedure. The PhD student can start work only after successful Doctoral School admission.
Application deadline: 18 November 2026, 23:59 (Europe/Warsaw). Applications are submitted by email to [email protected] with reference number QLAB/2026/G4/PHD/02. Required documents include the signed personal-data clause, candidate declaration, CV, motivation letter (max 2 pages), MSc diploma or final certificate and transcript, MSc thesis abstract, two reference letters sent directly by referees, and statements confirming no prior doctoral degree and the planned Doctoral School application.
Location: MAB QLAB Centre, University of Warsaw, Warsaw, Poland.

What's required
Applicants must hold an MSc degree or equivalent in physics, computer science, applied mathematics, optics, quantum technology, or a related discipline, and must have no prior doctoral degree. They must already have PhD student status or be eligible and willing to enroll in the University of Warsaw Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences; concurrent admission is required. A background in at least one of quantum information, statistical physics, quantum computing, machine learning, numerical physics, or applied mathematics is expected. Experience in scientific programming and familiarity with QNNs, many-body systems, reinforcement learning, or numerical simulation is an advantage. Good spoken and written English at B2 level or higher is required, and candidates must not be employed full-time elsewhere during the contract.
How to apply
Send the required documents by email to [email protected] and quote reference QLAB/2026/G4/PHD/02.
