About this position
PhD position at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Faculty of Chemistry, in Professor Bettina Siebers’ research group for Molecular Enzyme Technology and Biochemistry.
The project is part of a DFG-funded research program and focuses on phosphate (Pi) homeostasis and polyphosphate (PolyP) metabolism in archaea, using the thermoacidophilic model organism Sulfolobus acidocaldarius.
Research topics include construction and characterization of genetically modified strains, Pi uptake and regulation, cellular responses to phosphate availability, functional characterization of transport/regulatory proteins, and integration of transcriptomic, proteomic, physiological, and other multi-omics data.
The position is a doctoral opening with TV-L 13 pay at 65%, for 36 months, starting as soon as possible. The group offers an interdisciplinary environment spanning biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, physiology, and systems biology, plus support for conference presentations and scientific qualification.
Applicants should have a completed Master’s/Diplom in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, or a related field, along with practical lab experience and strong English skills. Experience with microorganisms, bioinformatics, or larger datasets is welcome.
Deadline: 2026-11-05. Apply online with cover letter, CV, and attachments, quoting reference number 499-26.
