About this position

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD student position in agricultural and food economics, based in Uppsala, Sweden. The successful candidate will join Professor Helena Hansson’s research group within the Department of Economics, focusing on applied economic analysis of sustainable agricultural production practices, preparedness, and resilience. The project will utilize microeconomic theory, applied econometrics, and economic modelling, analyzing both the uptake and consequences of sustainable practices in agriculture. Research will involve working with farm-level panel data, survey data, and potentially conducting new data collection.

Applicants should have a strong background in agricultural and food economics, applied economics, or a closely related field, with at least 60 HEC in economics and a completed Master’s thesis. Experience with statistical and econometric analysis, knowledge of the Swedish or European agricultural system, and familiarity with registrar or survey data are considered advantageous. Excellent English communication skills are required, and motivation, initiative, and teamwork are highly valued.

The PhD position is a four-year, full-time employment with a fixed salary progression according to the university’s collective agreement. The role may include up to 20% departmental duties, such as teaching or administration, which can extend the study period. The research group offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment with collaborations across crop production, technology, animal health, and policy research.

To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter, CV, degree certificates, transcript of records, a copy of their Master’s thesis, proof of English proficiency, and contact details for two references. Foreign applicants must present a certified copy of their passport at the interview. The application deadline is April 30, 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the official SLU job portal.
