About this position

Ashwini Sansare is recruiting a PhD student to join the BRAIN Lab—Biomechanics, Rehabilitation and Integrative Neuroscience—at Texas A&M University starting in Fall 2027.

The lab investigates how the brain controls balance and walking, with particular attention to aging and neurological conditions. Its research combines biomechanics and neuroscience to examine sensory integration and cognitive-motor interactions, with the broader goal of informing rehabilitation.

PhD students will gain hands-on experience with human movement and neurophysiological methods, including 3D motion capture, instrumented gait and balance assessments, virtual reality-based walking, electroencephalography (EEG), and noninvasive brain stimulation using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). The interdisciplinary setting is suited to students interested in how movement works and in connecting biomechanical analysis with neural mechanisms.

The opportunity is based in the BRAIN Lab and connected with KNSM doctoral admissions at Texas A&M University.

What's required

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise science, physical therapy, engineering, neuroscience, or a related field. A master's degree, prior research experience with human participants, and programming or data analysis skills in MATLAB, Python, R, or similar tools are advantageous. Applicants should be interested in developing research questions and examining movement from biomechanics and neuroscience perspectives.

How to apply

Email Ashwini Sansare at [email protected] with a CV and a brief statement of no more than one page describing your research interests, interest in the BRAIN Lab, and goals for doctoral training. Review the BRAIN Lab website and KNSM Doctoral Admissions information for further details.
