About this position

The Roslin Foundation, in partnership with the University of Edinburgh's Roslin Institute, is offering a new round of fully funded PhD studentships in animal biosciences. These prestigious 4-year studentships are designed to support outstanding students in conducting world-leading research across a range of topics, including animal health, livestock production, genetics, and related biosciences. The program is based at the renowned Roslin Institute, a global leader in veterinary and animal science research.

Studentships provide an enhanced stipend above the UKRI minimum, an increased research and training budget, and a dedicated travel allowance to support attendance at conferences and seminars. These enhancements ensure the studentships remain competitive and reflect the higher costs associated with animal-based research. Both UK and international students are eligible to apply, and tuition fees are fully covered.

Research areas span animal health, livestock production, genetics, epidemiology, immunology, molecular biology, and more. Example projects include studies on the evolution of territorial boundaries, epidemiology of snakebite injury, genomics of immune resilience in cattle, zoonotic infections, livestock farming sustainability, and the molecular basis of animal diseases. Supervisors are leading academics at the University of Edinburgh, with expertise across veterinary science, biology, and agriculture.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in a relevant field, such as animal biosciences, genetics, or veterinary science, and meet the University of Edinburgh's English language requirements. Previous research or laboratory experience is advantageous. The application deadline is 13 February 2026.

To apply, candidates should review the available projects and supervisors on the Roslin Foundation or University of Edinburgh studentships webpages, prepare the required application materials, and submit their application online before the deadline. For further information or queries, applicants can contact the postgraduate research administration team at [email protected].
