About this position

Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, is offering a post-doctoral assistant position in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. This role is situated within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and focuses on scientific research in rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy, particularly related to internal disorders such as cardiometabolic rehabilitation with an emphasis on type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

The successful candidate will devote at least 70% of their appointment to research activities, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in exercise and muscle physiology, rehabilitation, and clinical management of diabetes. Additional responsibilities include teaching at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, supervising master’s and doctoral students, and writing project proposals to attract external funding.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy, or Movement and Sports Sciences. For diplomas obtained outside the European Union, an equivalency certificate from NARIC is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong research background in rehabilitation, physiotherapy, or exercise physiology, with experience in cardiometabolic conditions considered an asset. A proven track record of scientific publications in international and national peer-reviewed journals is expected, along with experience supervising students and relevant clinical or professional activities.

The appointment is temporary for three years, with the possibility of renewal for up to three additional years following a favorable evaluation. Remuneration is based on salary scale AAP5, and Ghent University offers a comprehensive benefits package including training opportunities, 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, and more. The position is open to candidates who have previously held similar appointments, and the second term does not need to be immediately consecutive to the first.

Applications must be submitted online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of 7 April 2026. Required documents include a CV (with publication list), cover letter, diploma transcript, and certificate of equivalence (if applicable). For diplomas not in Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation is required. Ghent University encourages applications from all backgrounds as part of its equal opportunities and diversity policy.
