About this position
This postdoctoral position at the University of Maryland, College Park is centered on identifying bacterial and viral pathogens from human and animal sources using traditional culture and molecular approaches, and on developing and validating natural antimicrobials to counter bacterial pathogens and improve animal health and immunity.
The research involves an ongoing animal study with a strong poultry focus. The successful candidate will help maintain the animal research facility, monitor poultry housing, raising, health, and behavior, and work with pathogen challenge experiments to study colonization, immune responses, and differences in gut microbiome composition between treated and untreated groups.
In addition to pathogen and animal work, the project includes bacterial genetics, including generating mutants by adding or deleting bacterial genes. The position also calls for independent work on infectious agents, data analysis, manuscript preparation, grant writing, and support for undergraduate and graduate students.
The appointment sits within the Department of AGNR-Animal & Avian Sciences, offering a research environment that combines microbiology, animal science, poultry research, and molecular biology. The role is well suited to someone who wants to contribute to applied research on pathogen control, host immunity, and microbiome-linked animal health.
