About this position
This postdoctoral position is based in the Fryar Price Risk Management Center of Excellence within the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. The role is a one-year appointment starting in January 2027 and is structured around Center-defined research, outreach, and engagement priorities.
The fellow will contribute to applied work that turns agricultural market data into practical decision-support resources for producers, industry users, and policymakers. Core outputs include an interactive hedging tool for row crop and livestock operations, monthly USDA report summaries, and an interactive WASDE dashboard. Together, these products are intended to help users interpret supply-and-demand information, assess price risk, and make more informed marketing decisions.
The hedging tool will guide farmers through marketing scenarios using variables such as acres, yields, production costs, storage costs, and basis levels, then translate those inputs into likely profit-margin outcomes under different pricing conditions. The USDA report summaries will synthesize changes in key reports such as WASDE, grain stocks, and cattle on feed, while the dashboard will track market implications, historical context, and futures-price responses across commodities.
The position is highly collaborative and tied closely to the Fryar Center's mission. The fellow will work with Center faculty on a monthly basis, and the emphasis is on producing impactful applied research products, outreach materials, presentations, and tools that strengthen the Center's visibility and usefulness to agricultural stakeholders.
