About this position
Telecom Paris is advertising a postdoctoral fellowship in transmission and sensing over hollow-core fibers for an 18-month fixed-term contract. The position is based at the COMELEC department of Télécom Paris, part of the Institut Mines-Télécom and a founding member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, in Palaiseau, France.
The project focuses on hollow-core photonic crystal fibers (HCPCFs), a fast-developing photonics technology with very low propagation loss, reduced latency, ultra-low dispersion, and negligible nonlinearities. The successful candidate will work on the next generation of HCPCFs for high-speed data transmission and distributed sensing, with an ambitious target of demonstrating 400 Gbps transmission over a few kilometers of novel fiber samples and exploring sensing applications over these fibers.
The work is highly interdisciplinary and combines numerical modeling, fiber characterization, experimental validation, and signal processing across the C-band. The project mentions collaboration between two complementary research groups: one internationally recognized for HCPCF design and fabrication, and another leading in high-speed optical communication and sensing systems. The researcher will contribute to iterative feedback between fiber design and system-level testing to optimize transmission and sensing performance.
The position is part of the PLEIADES project, within the PEPR “Networks of the Future” program funded by the ANR and involving a consortium of 14 partners, including several academic laboratories working on next-generation hollow-core fibers.
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in electrical engineering, communications, photonics, signal processing, or a related field. Strong knowledge of optical transmission systems and networks is required, along with experience in DSP for communication systems or fibre-optic sensors. Skills in MATLAB and/or Python are considered an advantage. Good English proficiency is essential, and the role also values teamwork, teaching ability, and experience or willingness to supervise interns or students.
The deadline for applications is 30 November 2026. Interested candidates should apply through the online application portal linked in the vacancy notice.
