About this position
This postdoctoral position sits in the Department of Architecture at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and is embedded in an interdisciplinary research effort at the intersection of robotics, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and materials innovation. The fellow will work closely with Dr. Kaicong Wu, an Arkansas Research Alliance Innovation Scholar and Assistant Professor of Architecture in Design Studio and Advanced Digital Technologies, and will join a research group focused on regenerative design and construction.
The project targets high-impact problems in sustainable material systems, automation in construction, and workforce development. The researcher will contribute to work on reversible timber construction, wood by-product composites, adaptive robotic fabrication, human-robot collaboration, and multimodal foundation models with AI-enabled agentic systems. The role emphasizes both conceptual development and hands-on experimentation, with opportunities to propose and shape research directions aligned with the fellow’s own trajectory and the broader goals of the group.
The position is intended to strengthen research culture, technical infrastructure, external partnerships, and scholarly visibility within the department. It also offers a setting where architecture, computation, fabrication, and materials research meet, with collaboration involving faculty, students, research groups, and external partners. The appointee may contribute to prototypes, datasets, workflows, journal and conference publications, external grant applications, demonstrators, intellectual property, and commercialization-oriented innovation. Depending on interests, there may also be involvement in exhibitions, installations, design-build work, and support for robotic fabrication and advanced digital technologies.
This is an in-person research role based in Fayetteville.
