About this position
Postdoctoral position in chemistry available for 24 months at the University of Brest, within the COSM team at CEMCA (UMR CNRS 6521), Brest, France.
The project focuses on functional macrocyclic chelators for imaging mass cytometry (IMC). IMC combines antibody-based detection with metal isotope labels to map many biological markers on tissue sections with high spatial precision. This project aims to expand the number of usable detection channels by designing new bifunctional chelators able to strongly coordinate new metals and by developing grafting strategies on innovative platforms to replace current MAXPAR polymers.
The host research group, the Nitrogen-containing Macrocycles and Coordination group, works on nitrogen-containing macrocycles for health-related applications such as medical imaging and therapy. The laboratory offers strong support for high-level organic chemistry, including automated chromatographic purification, HPLC, NMR, and HR-MS facilities.
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent and have strong practical experience in organic synthesis, preferably macrocyclic chemistry, as well as skills in purification, characterisation, scientific writing, and problem solving. Experience in coordination chemistry, bioconjugation, and physico-chemical studies is desirable. English is required at a good level.
The appointment is funded through the Bienvenü Bretagne scheme and lasts 24 months, with a salary of approximately 2,600 euros before tax. Eligibility requires that the candidate defended their thesis within the last three years and spent at least 18 months abroad between 1 April 2023 and the project start date.
Application deadline: 15 February 2027, 12:00 (Europe/Paris). Apply by email with a CV, cover letter, and two reference letters.

What's required
PhD or equivalent in chemistry is required. Essential experience includes strong practical organic synthesis skills, preferably in macrocyclic chemistry, purification and characterization of organic compounds, good scientific writing, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and the ability to work independently while contributing to an interdisciplinary research team. Desirable experience includes coordination chemistry, bioconjugation reactions (click chemistry, NHS, maleimide), and physico-chemical studies such as potentiometry and UV-vis spectroscopy. Candidates must have defended their thesis within the last three years and have spent at least 18 months abroad between 1 April 2023 and the project start. English proficiency at a good level is required.
