About this position
New Jersey Institute of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Dr. Jorge Golowasch to launch a new research direction at the intersection of plant natural products chemistry and translational neuroscience.
The project focuses on the bioactivity of plant-derived natural products against neuroinflammation, including THC-like compounds identified in liverworts. The appointee will help build and carry out a screening pipeline to test candidate compounds in relevant cellular systems and connect chemical discovery with functional neurobiological readouts.
Research activities include:
- designing and executing bioactivity screens in anti-neuroinflammatory cell models;
- running biochemical and molecular assays to assess cytokines, signaling pathways, and cell viability;
- using microscopy approaches such as immunofluorescence and live-cell imaging;
- integrating electrophysiological measurements, including patch-clamp readouts, into the workflow;
- maintaining mammalian cell culture systems and preparing compounds for testing;
- mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers;
- analyzing data, contributing to manuscripts, and supporting grant development.
The postdoctoral researcher will work in a research environment that combines experimental neuroscience, cell-based screening, and natural products-focused discovery within NJIT’s broader research community. The role is centered on building a new line of investigation under Dr. Golowasch’s supervision.
