About this position

Post-doctoral researcher position in the Department of Neuronal Cell Biology at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań, Poland.

The project is focused on the chromatin dynamics of Purkinje cells as a determinant of neuronal vulnerability in spinocerebellar ataxias. The postdoctoral researcher will work within the OPUS-29 project Identifying changes in Purkinje cell chromatin dynamics as novel drivers of neuronal vulnerability in spinocerebellar ataxias, led by Principal Investigator Pawel M. Switonski. The research addresses how chromatin organization, epigenetic regulation, nuclear architecture, transcriptional dysregulation, and phase separation contribute to selective neuronal degeneration in ataxia models.

The successful candidate will take part in designing, optimizing, and performing advanced experiments related to epigenetic profiling and chromatin analysis in Purkinje cells. Planned work includes high-throughput chromatin assays such as Cut&Tag, nanoCut&Tag, and Hi-C, as well as cell culture and functional assays to study chromatin dysfunction and phase condensation phenomena. The project also includes validation in mouse models and human-derived samples, plus analysis and integration of multi-omic datasets including epigenetic and transcriptional data.

This is a full-time temporary position for 36 months, with an expected salary of approximately PLN 9,450 gross per month. The institution indicates additional social benefits, including co-financing of holiday leave, a Multisport card or tickets for cultural events, and the possibility of joining group life and medical insurance.

Applicants must hold a PhD in biology, biotechnology, neurobiology, or a related discipline. Strong knowledge of chromatin biology, epigenetic regulation, and transcriptional mechanisms is expected, together with substantial hands-on experience in cell and molecular biology techniques. Experience with epigenetic profiling and/or high-throughput sequencing is highly desirable, and bioinformatics/data analysis skills are an advantage. English proficiency, the ability to work independently, and the capacity to critically evaluate scientific literature are also required. NCN eligibility rules apply, including restrictions on the timing and location of the doctoral degree and prior postdoctoral training.

Applications should be submitted via the eRecruiter portal before 13 November 2026. Required documents include an application to the Director of IBCH PAN, contact details for previous scientific supervisors or other referees, a copy of the doctoral diploma or supervisor statement on the planned defense date, and a scientific CV with achievements and publication list. The recruitment process includes document screening and an interview, after which a ranking list of recommended candidates will be prepared.

PhD degree in biology, biotechnology, neurobiology, or a related discipline is required. Applicants should have a solid understanding of chromatin biology, epigenetic regulation, and transcriptional mechanisms; significant hands-on experience with cell and molecular biology techniques such as cloning, nuclear fractionation, immunostaining, and western blotting; experience with epigenetic profiling methods and/or high-throughput sequencing technologies is highly desirable. Candidates must be able to critically evaluate scientific literature, work independently, and demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English. Experience in bioinformatics and data analysis will be considered an asset. NCN eligibility rules also apply: the doctoral degree must generally have been obtained no earlier than 12 years before the year of employment, with possible extensions for documented sickness, rehabilitation, or childcare-related leave; additional conditions apply regarding where the doctoral degree and postdoctoral internship were obtained.
