About this position
Universitat de les Illes Balears (University of the Balearic Islands) is offering a post-doctoral research position in the Institute for Applied Computing and Community Code (IAC3), based in Palma, Spain. The successful candidate will join research in computational relativistic astrophysics and numerical relativity, contributing specifically to work in magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). The project is framed within a funded research contract and is suited to a recognised researcher at R2 level.
The role is centered on advanced computational research, with emphasis on relativistic magnetohydrodynamics, numerical methods, and neutrino transport modelling. The postdoctoral researcher will also work on models connected to neutron star collisions, making this an attractive opportunity for candidates interested in the intersection of astrophysics, relativity, and high-performance scientific computation.
The position is led by PI Carlos Palenzuela Luque at the University of the Balearic Islands. The appointment is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and temporary, with a planned start date of 11 January 2027 and a contract end date linked to the project timeline, currently noted as 30 June 2027.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Physics or a closely related discipline. Strong skills in programming languages, numerical methods, relativistic magnetohydrodynamics, and neutrino transport modelling are requested. English and Spanish language proficiency is particularly valued. Prior experience with computational models of relativistic magnetohydrodynamics and neutron star collision simulations will strengthen the application. Non-EU degree holders selected for appointment must provide proof of qualification equivalence or evidence that equivalence has been requested.
The post offers a gross monthly salary of 2,375.61 € and includes National Social Security Insurance / public health insurance. Applications must be submitted via the UIB portal, and candidates should also consult the official vacancy page for any updates or changes to the call.
Deadline: 11 November 2026, 23:55 (Europe/Madrid).
