About this position
Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors (IfADo), Dortmund, is offering a post-doctoral researcher position in the research group Neuroimaging and Interindividual Differences (Department of Psychology and Neuroscience).
The project, Laminar connectivity in the MTL: Precision neuroimaging and relevance for performance, is part of the DFG research group Layers of Memory. It will investigate how laminar microstructure in the medial temporal lobe relates to interindividual differences in memory performance and functional MTL BOLD responses in healthy young participants. The work will use advanced multimodal imaging, including ultra-high-resolution 7T MRI, qMRI, diffusion imaging, and functional imaging, with a focus on the hippocampus and adjacent cortical areas.
The position is carried out in close collaboration with Prof. Dr. Oliver Speck, and a central part of the data collection will take place at the 7 Tesla research infrastructure in Magdeburg. This offers access to a highly advanced ultra-high-field environment and close collaboration across the interdisciplinary network in Dortmund, Bochum, Essen, and Magdeburg.
Key tasks include planning, conducting, and analysing multimodal 7T MRI studies; analysing laminar microstructure and connectivity in the medial temporal lobe; integrating qMRI, diffusion, and functional imaging data; developing analysis strategies for laminar data; and contributing to publications, presentations, and scientific reporting.
Applicants must hold a completed doctorate in neuroscience, psychology, biology, physics, engineering, computer science, or a comparable field. Experience in structural and functional MRI analysis is required, while high-resolution 7T imaging, diffusion imaging, qMRI, laminar analysis, and programming in Python or Matlab are strong advantages. The role is full-time (39.83 hours/week) and paid according to TV-L E 13, with monthly remuneration of EUR 4,759.37 to EUR 6,764.69 depending on qualifications, plus public service benefits.
The contract is initially limited to 4 years, with an anticipated start from early 2027. Applications are due by 2026-11-08 and must be sent by email with the reference code FB Psycho 01/26.
