About this position

Uppsala University is advertising a Postdoc in Air-Sea-Ice interactions at the Department of Earth Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden. The project sits at the intersection of Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physics, and Computer Science, with a focus on air-sea-ice interactions, the marginal ice zone (MIZ), turbulent fluxes, and their role in polar weather and climate.

The postdoctoral research will develop and implement new turbulent parameterizations for the MIZ into Earth system models (regional or global) and assess how MIZ processes influence polar extreme cyclones and broader polar climate dynamics. The department highlights its interdisciplinary environment and expertise in geoscience, climate, weather, environmental and water engineering, and sustainable development.

Eligibility and requirements: applicants must hold a PhD in atmospheric sciences, oceanic sciences, or a closely related field (or an equivalent foreign degree) by the time of the employment decision. Experience with numerical modelling is required, especially with tools such as WRF, EC-Earth, and/or sea-ice models. Strong scientific programming and computational modeling skills are expected, along with the ability to work independently and contribute to a multidisciplinary international team. Linux/Unix experience and strong Python and Bash skills are highly desirable.

Employment details: the position is a temporary 2-year full-time postdoc with a starting date of 1 Nov 2026 or as agreed. Placement is in Uppsala.
